Phil Downs

Technical Director, NTDs at Sightsavers

As Technical Director of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) at Sightsavers, Dr. Downs leads a team of technical experts to promote global standards and best practices for the control and elimination of NTDs. He received his doctoral degree from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and Master in Public Health from Emory University. Dr. Downs’ early work in fighting NTDs started as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Cote d’Ivoire (97-99), leading to extensive work on Guinea worm eradication and Trachoma control as Deputy Director at The Carter Center. Before joining Sightsavers, he was Senior Manager on NTD programing at RTI International.
